JACFA GA Digest: Survey on Lounge Renovations, etc.

Dear Colleagues,

At our general assembly on May 19, an update was given on Faculty/Staff Lounge renovations.

It was reported that building codes would require the installation of commercial grade ventilation and fire prevention equipment, if any cooking equipment (including a residential stove) is installed in the renovated space. Presently, the College is planning to not install such equipment, due to work and cost considerations.

After hearing feedback at the GA, as a follow-up, we would like to further gauge amongst our members the interest and need for maintaining cooking facilities. Could you please complete the brief survey on Microsoft Forms by Tuesday, May 25?

Moreover, the local agreements on hiring for Nunavik Sivunitsavut and Cree School Board programs were adopted with the following recommended modifications:

Cree School Board Agreement

In point 4: Replace “Professors with experience teaching indigenous students” with “professors with experience in indigenous education,”.

In point 6: Replace “individuals having direct experience with a Eeyou-Eenou communities” with “individuals with direct lived experience in and knowledge of Eeyou-Eenou communities, with experience teaching in Cree classrooms, and with Cree speaking as an asset.”

Nunavik Sivunitsavut Agreement

In point 4: Replace “Professors with experience teaching indigenous students” with “professors with experience in indigenous education.”.

In point 6: Replace “individuals having direct experience with a Nunavik community” with “individuals with direct lived experience in and knowledge of Nunavik communities, with experience teaching in Inuit classrooms, and with Inuktitut speaking as an asset.”

We look forward to hearing from you on the survey.

Best Regards,

The  JACFA Executive
