We want to take a moment to alert you to an important agenda item for our next General Assembly on this Wednesday, February 12.
In our estimation, the opening of a John Abbott satellite campus at the Centre d’études collégiales (CEC) in Vaudreuil would result in significant working-condition consequences for our teachers, including:
- Physical displacement to a location off-island without access to public transportation
- Challenges for departmental cohesion for affected departments, and the integration of new teachers caused by two campuses
- Potential inadequate support services for teachers and students, due to the CEC funding formula
The project, details of which can be found in the recent Advocate article, is currently pending government approval. We believe many outstanding questions need be answered before such a project is approved. Therefore, at the GA we will be discussing a motion that will allow JACFA to advocate, along with FNEEQ (our union federation), and other affected teachers’ unions, to put the approval of the project on hold, until such questions are satisfactorily addressed.
At the GA, we will be presenting all the relevant details. We hope you can make it for this important debate.
