General Assembly, August 22

Dear colleagues

We would like to confirm the General Assembly for this Wednesday August 22, 1 p.m.

One of the main items on the agenda will be an update related to the Welcome Back Breakfast boycott. Negotiations on the two related files, payment of non-permanent teachers and JACFA release, are ongoing. It is likely that by Wednesday, there may be an offer from the College on these matters, presented for discussion and approval at the GA. If such an offer were approved, it might subsequently affect the General Assembly’s position on the boycott on Thursday.

This GA will also hold elections to resolve some outstanding issues stemming from the May 16, 2018 General Assembly elections. In particular, at the meeting, we will be opening nominations from the floor for 1 position on Academic Council, and 1 position for Academic Council permanent substitute.  The originally-planned election for Faculty Professional Development Committee members will no longer be necessary because one nominee has withdrawn his nomination. (Please note the election will not take place at a fixed time as indicated in a previously-sent draft of the agenda. It will occur when all preceding agenda items are dealt with.)

Lastly, we will be considering a minor change to the JACFA Constitution announced at the May 16 GA. Please see the attached agenda for details.

We hope to see you at the meeting for these important discussions and possible decisions.

In solidarity,

The JACFA Executive
